82nd Avenue Friends and Neighbors-

Thank you for your incredible support! As you know, yesterday we made the heartbreaking decision to cancel the 82nd Avenue of the Roses Parade. In the last 24 hours we have been overwhelmed with public support for the event, its volunteers and the community.

82nd Avenue and East Portland’s strength is our diversity and our ability to come together in difficult circumstances. We ask you to continue to stand with us and show our commitment to each other by changing your Facebook profile picture to this “I Support 82nd Avenue” badge.

Thank you!

82nd Avenue of the Roses Thanks Community for Outpouring of Support – Parade Remains Cancelled

Portland, OR – In the 24 hours since cancelling the 11th annual 82nd Avenue of the Roses Parade, the 82nd Avenue of the Roses Business Association has been overwhelmed with public support for the event, its volunteer planners and the community.

In particular, the 82nd Avenue of the Roses Business Association would like to acknowledge the strong support provided by Mayor Ted Wheeler, Commissioner Nick Fish, the Portland City Council and the Portland Police Bureau. As volunteers, we are gratified by the City’s willingness to provide its considerable support and resources to our business association and East Portland’s dedicated business owners and community members. We look forward to continuing our partnership and building on our shared commitment to strengthen East Portland, bring positive recognition to 82nd Avenue of the Roses and stand up for our community.

The business of Portland is about more than just business. It’s about people, neighborhoods and culture and making more out of the business districts we all call home. While the Parade and Carnival remain cancelled, we strongly encourage Portlanders to visit the great businesses on 82nd Avenue of the Roses on Saturday and in the future.

Save The Date: ‘Around the World in 82 Dishes,’ the 2nd annual international food tour of 82nd Avenue is August 1-31. Visit discover82ndave.com for more information.

For Immediate Release: 11th Annual 82nd Avenue of the Roses Parade and Carnival Cancelled Due to Public Safety Concerns

Portland, OR – For more than a decade, 82nd Avenue of Roses Business Association, in partnership with local businesses, residents and community groups, has hosted the 82nd Avenue of Roses Parade. This event, created to celebrate and promote East Portland and the diverse community that lives, works and plays on 82nd Avenue is also the first sanctioned event of the Portland Rose Festival.

Following threats of violence during the Parade by multiple groups planning to disrupt the event, 82nd Avenue of Roses Business Association can no longer guarantee the safety of our community and have made the difficult decision to cancel the Parade originally scheduled for Saturday, April 29 at 9:30am. The related Carnival at Eastport Plaza is also cancelled. We are deeply disappointed that the agendas of these outside groups have so regrettably impacted East Portland and the 82nd Avenue community.

While the formal Parade and Carnival are cancelled, we strongly encourage Portlanders to visit the great businesses on 82nd Avenue of Roses on Saturday and in the future.

Save The Date: ‘Around the World in 82 Dishes,’ the 2nd annual international food tour of 82nd Avenue is August 1-31. Visit discover82ndave.com for more information.
